Duplicate a Page in WordPress including Posts and Sections (2024)

June 28, 2024 Mohit Singh WordPress

Managing a WordPress website can feel like juggling between many tasks at the same time. Brainstorming fresh content ideas, maintaining existing pages, and keeping up with the design adjustments, all feel like a constant struggle. But what if we tell you that there is a simple way to streamline your workload and save some of your precious time? Yes, that simple way is WordPress duplication! You don’t have to start from scratch, because duplication helps you copy not just your existing WordPress pages but also the posts and sections within them.

Just think of it this way: You are running short on content ideas and even after spending hours researching for the same, all you get is disappointment. That’s where duplication comes in the picture. You can simply duplicate the existing post and adjust the content a little and that’s it, you are all set with a new post within a minute.

Also, if you ever feel like experimenting with a new design layout but are unsure if that would turn out to be good or not, you can simply create a duplicate WordPress page. You can try the new layout on that page and if it turns out to be a disaster, you don’t have to worry since the original page will remain intact.

So, that’s how duplication on WordPress works. If you also want to duplicate a page on your WordPress blog along with the posts and sections, then you are at the right place. We will cover the important steps to achieve the same. Stay with us till the end because you will find a lot of information that you wouldn’t want to miss out on.

Steps to effortlessly duplicate a page, post,s and sections in WordPress

Before we begin, there’s one thing that you should understand: duplicating a page doesn’t entirely mean copying it. But it is a way of saving time whenever you are updating your website or simply improving the content. Following duplication for a longer period of time can affect your WordPress website’s search engine rankings. So, use it in moderation.

There are two ways you can duplicate a page on WordPress i.e., either manually or with the help of a plugin. Let’s first look at the steps to duplicate a page in WordPress with the help of a plugin.

  • Search the Duplicate Page plugin from your WordPress dashboard and install it. Once the plugin is installed, activate it on your website.
  • Now go to the “pages” section through your WordPress dashboard and you will find the list of your already existing WordPress pages. Choose the one that you want to duplicate.
  • Next to all your wordpress pages, you will see options like, edit, trash and duplicate this. Click on the “duplicate this” option to clone the page.
  • The duplicate page plugin will create an exact copy of the page and it will be saved as draft. You can find this duplicated page at the top of the list of all pages.
  • Now open the new duplicated page and edit it to create a new content out of it. And once you are done making the changes you can make it live on your website.

Follow these steps to duplicate or clone your posts/pages on wordpress. The Duplicate Page plugin comes with limited features for those who haven’t bought this plugin’s license for $15. If for some reason you don’t find this plugin worth your money then you can go for some other alternative plugins too. Examples of some of the plugins are, Yoast duplicate plugin, post duplicator, duplicate pp and more.

Steps to duplicate a page or posts on wordpress manually

Duplicating the posts and pages manually can be really time consuming because when you copy a post or page only the text will be copied. You will have to copy the mets tags, meta descriptions, images and other things separately. Now let’s look at the steps of duplicating posts or pages manually.

  • Go to your wordpress dashboard and look for posts or pages you want to duplicate.
  • Now look for the images in the page/post that you want to duplicate too. Now right click on the image and save it on your laptop.
  • Open that post/page in the editor and copy it. If you are using the classic editor then you can simply copy the text by using ctrl+c. But if you are using the block editor then you need to copy the content from the “copy all blocks” option.
  • Now create a new draft of the post or page and paste the content that you have copied.
  •  Make changes to the content of the page to make it unique and add the images you downloaded in your computer earlier.
  • Now copy the format of the clone page/post. If the original post followed some kind of format like, standard, aside or gallery, you can apply the same to the duplicate page. For the classic editor, look for the “document” option to copy the format and for the block editor look for the “format” option.
  • Update the SEO setting to the duplicate page. You can apply the similar SEO setting to the clone page like you had on the original page. If you are using any SEO plugin then search for its settings in the editor and copy the same settings like meta tags, meta description and more to the draft page.
  • Once you are done editing the duplicated content, format, and SEO settings, you can now publish it on your wordpress website.

So, this is how you duplicate a page or post manually on wordpress. As we mentioned earlier, it is a very time taking process since you have to copy each setting separately.

Note:  The steps required to duplicate sections in wordpress are the same too and it is easier and less time taking than duplicating posts/pages. You simply have to copy the sections you want to duplicate and paste it in the editor then publish it once you are done editing it.
